Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CA CLS License)

 The candidate will have the opportunity to work in a service-oriented lab in a new facility with state of the art equipment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate must be a licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the state of California. The candidate would:

  • Work in the CLIA lab running gene expression assays which includes reviewing, interpreting, and reporting patient results
  • Have excellent focus and attention to detail with good documentation skills
  • Have excellent laboratory techniques
  • Have the ability to multi-task and function within a highly collaborative environment
  • Write/revise SOPs
  • Adhere to all SOPs and regulatory requirements
  • Be adaptable to changing work flows
  • Meet quality control standards to demonstrate expected assay performance
  • Be able to identify and troubleshoot problems that may adversely affect test performance
  • Have schedule flexibility
  • Have effective verbal and written communication
  • Have strong automation and computer skills
  • Participate and support our overall commercial operation

Medical Appeals Specialist

General Description of Position:

The Appeals Specialist manages a medical patient insurance claim after the claim has been denied by either a commercial or a government payer (e.g. Blue Cross Blue Shield or Medicare).  The objective of this position is to work with the patient, whose claim has been denied, the treating physician, and the health insurance company to get the denied claim reversed and payment made for clinical services rendered. It will be the responsibility of the Appeals Specialist to understand and interpret health insurance appeals and provider dispute resolution processes, applicable clinical guidelines, and health payer coverage policies. Position also requires drafting, submitting and tracking action on appeals letters, reconsideration and re-determination requests and other communication with medical payers on behalf of CardioDx and it’s patients. The Appeals Specialist is also responsible for understanding the clinical information required for an appeal, will have the ability to perform searches for relevant journal articles and will assist the patient and the physician or physician staff through education and clear communication about the appeals process and the status of the patient’s medical claim. The Appeals Specialists will track the status of outstanding appeals and will trend appeals successes to help develop establishing appeals strategies for specific payers.  The position will work closely with patients, treating physicians, CardioDx field-based sales representatives, CardioDx billing personnel and external personnel at health insurance companies.

Work Experience Requirements:

  • Must have two or more years of direct medical claim appeals experience for laboratory or hospital claims or two or more years of medical claims reviewing or provider dispute resolution experience in a commercial health insurance company.
  • Proficiency in healthcare insurance reimbursement including benefit investigations, appeals, Medicare re-determination and reconsideration requests, and other provider dispute resolution actions.
  • Must have strong writing skills and excellent organizational ability.
  • Strong customer service/patient service skills and physician relationship skills along with the ability to do multiple tasks are keys to success in this position. 
  • Effective problem solving skills, an attention to detail and strong verbal skills are also important.
  • Clinical knowledge is preferable but not essential to position

The position reports to the Reimbursement Operations Department.

Education Requirements

  • Associate's degree required.
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant clinical degree and licensure (LPN; RN) preferred

Job Location:

The Appeals Specialist can be located in-house at the CardioDx offices in Palo Alto, CA or, if residing outside of California, the employee can work from home, however, travel to Palo Alto will be required.
